Student Projects – Stack Dew Valley

Made by Hack Street Boys/Girls

Train Code Fight

The idea is a blend of stack dew valley, farming type games but instead of plants you plant developers called devlings and water them with knowledge. Pokemon style battles to get students into the job market after graduation.

The Team

Paul McDonagh

Paul McDonagh

A passionate energetic father of 2, I have recently decided

to change career and have taken the first steps in my software development journey. To this end, I have recently studied Python, JavaScript, front and back-end development. I have always had an interest in anything technical and I am always looking to learn new things. I have worked in tech support for several years and this brought to life the interest in coding which I have decided to pursue.

Sophie Thompson

Sophie Thompson

Sophie new bio: After graduating from university in 2024, I

felt unsure with what career path to take. I have always enjoyed learning new languages and I have a natural desire to problem-solve – for these reasons I became interested in coding very quickly. I enjoy the creativity of finding my own solution to a problem, yet I also find it incredibly rewarding to work with a group and to share ideas for the best solution. I have particularly enjoyed implementing new tech alongside familiar tech in our final project.

Chris Askew

A dedicated professional with over 20 years of experience

in tech support within Higher Education, now transitioning to Software Development. My coding journey actually began in the 80s when I programmed in BASIC on my ZX Spectrum. After recently experiencing redundancy, I’ve embraced my roots and I’m taking this new challenge head-on. With a passion for tech and creative problem-solving, I am excited to bring my skills to innovative software development opportunities and I’m eager to collaborate with like-minded professionals by contributing to projects in a field that has always been a lifelong interest.

Tymur Holovko

Tymur Holovko

Hi! My name is Tymur, but most people call me Tim. After

graduating with honors from a maritime academy and working two contracts as a Deck Cadet, I made the decision to pursue a career change and explore new paths. Since then, I’ve taken on a variety of roles — from waiting tables to assisting in food and beverage services, and even doing occasional construction work in Germany. It was during that time in Germany that I met several passionate programmers who introduced me to the world of coding. Their enthusiasm sparked a genuine interest, which quickly grew into a strong passion. I began learning independently through online resources, completing various HTML and JavaScript projects, and eventually enrolled in the Northcoders Software Development Bootcamp to deepen my understanding. Always happy to learn new technologies and collaborate with others, I enjoy working with other developers to explore fresh ideas and explore problems from different perspectives.

Dean Wilson

Dean Wilson

An avid individual with a clear interest in the technology

industry that revolves around A.I. and cybersecurity. Within the years of being around computer technology I have adapted to most environments as if it was life itself, this new experience to embark on a journey into Software Development, it created a need for more enticing journeys ahead of me. I am capable of showing my skills within my code instead of talking since everything is 1’s and 0’s, contributions towards projects in the future with increased efficiency and work ethics are always the perfect skill to endure in these roles and it will forever be an interest of mine.

Whether I’m designing RPGs with javascript or prototyping animatronic hardware, I approach every project with curiosity, care and creative fire and beyond the screen, I’m an artist and educator with the goal of making tech more human as well as more fun.

Tech Stack

Tech Stack for this group

We used Vite, Firebase, JS, Phaser Phaser seemed like a really good fit for what we trying to achieve with the game and the customisation we were looking to achieve. Firebase, because of the speed and ease of integration.

Challenges Faced

There were challenges implementing all of these technologies together something always seemed to break something else. We got to an MVP in the end.
