Student Projects – Budgee

Made by Budgee

See it. Track it. Own it.

Budgee is a friendly and intuitive finance planner designed to help people manage their money with clarity and confidence. The idea was born from a simple frustration: most budgeting tools feel cold, complex, or overwhelming. Our team of six developers wanted something better — a tool that feels like a helpful friend, not a spreadsheet. With Budgee, users can easily track expenses, plan budgets, and visualize spending through color-coded categories and real-time charts. The app’s soft green palette reflects growth and calm, with both light and dark modes to suit any mood. Whether you’re saving for something big or simply building better habits, Budgee makes managing money visual, stress-free, and human.

I decided to become a developer because I love the

challenge of solving problems and creating things that can make a real difference. My background in banking taught me how to think analytically and stay calm under pressure, while my time in education and community service showed me the importance of connecting with people and working together to tackle challenges. Over time, I realized I wanted a career that combined those skills with my passion for tech and creativity, which led me to Northcoders – an intensive full-time coding bootcamp focused on full-stack JavaScript development, where I trained from January to April 2025. Now, I’m excited to contribute and grow as a Junior Software Engineer.

A capable and curious software developer with a passion for

coding from a young age.. I hold a Master’s in Mathematics, specialising in financial mathematics and mathematical programming, with a focus in Python and Java. My studies involved the mathematics underpinning common machine learning models and data mining methods, programmatically analysing numerical analysis techniques and extensive Python simulation of financial data. While working as a bar manager in Edinburgh post-graduation, I continued developing my programming skills, creating Java and Python personal projects and programmatic solutions for various workplaces. Having completed the Northcoders JavaScript bootcamp, I’m eager to transition into a career in software development, applying my technical knowledge and problem-solving abilities.

Tech Stack

Tech Stack for this group

We used Fastify, MongoDB, Vue, Chart.js, Tailwind This stack gives us a scalable backend, a responsive and reactive frontend, powerful data visualization, and rapid, consistent styling — perfect for building a modern finance planner like Budgee.

Challenges Faced

Yes, we faced several challenges while building Budgee. Integrating backend data with frontend state management was tricky at first, especially when aligning category and expense structures. We also spent time refining the user experience to balance simplicity with functionality, making sure the app feels intuitive without losing important financial insights.
