Wondering what to expect from Northcoders’ part-time Software Development Bootcamp in JavaScript? We checked in with our current part-time cohort—now over halfway through the course—and asked them to share their thoughts about the bootcamp, the support available, and the speed of the course.
What do you think of your time at Northcoders so far?
Olivia: My time at Northcoders so far has been intense but rewarding. I have learnt a huge amount, more than I expected to at this stage, and I find that I really look forward to each sprint, lecture and seminar.
Farmata: I am enjoying having a structured road map to learning full stack development. Every lecture is well designed and relevant to the sprints we have to then work on. It allows us to gradually and methodically level up our coding skills.
Maria: I honestly love the way the course is built so far, layer by layer, which allows me to ‘digest’ the material and move on to the next topic. And David’s tutoring skills are amazing as he can explain complicated things very clearly, provides lots of examples and help.
How are you finding the support on the course?
Farmata: The support team is always available for questions, even on short notice. They always encourage us to send questions and provide valuable feedback.
Chloe: There is so much support here! I have a 1-2-1 every week, they take questions in the lectures and seminars and someone is always in Gather (an online platform) to chat! Any questions I have sent over Slack have been answered super quickly and when I have spoken to David in Gather it’s been super detailed and helpful. The feedback to my work has also been very detailed and really helpful, and it’s great to see it through someone else’s eyes who has the knowledge to direct me.
James: Great – honestly I feel like I haven’t made use of them enough! Going through code in-depth in weekly 1-2-1s has been really helpful in building better habits, something I struggled with when trying to self-teach.
What about the speed of the course? Has it been manageable?
Chloe: Yes, it has been perfect, it’s difficult to put it into words but it just flows and makes sense. It’s definitely manageable and I don’t ever feel like I haven’t got enough time or that I will fall behind.
Farmata: As a mom of young children who keep getting ill, I appreciate the part-time course, and the pace has been manageable so far.
Olivia: Yes, the pace is quick, but I am coming to understand that I don’t need to fully master a topic before we move on, as I will be continuing to revisit those topics throughout the rest of the course.
Thank you to our part-time students for taking the time to answer a few questions!
