Administrator to UI Developer

How did you find your time on the bootcamp?

I loved my time at Northcoders! I have made new friends, learned a million new skills and started a brand new career after only 6 months! Everyone at NC is really supportive and it's a great community. They supported me before I started the course with pre-course prep, during the course and after graduating to help me get a job. There is an option to retake modules which is great to enable you to learn at your own pace. Highly recommended!

What were you doing before the bootcamp and what made you apply?

Before NC I was doing admin, I wasn't happy in my job and couldn't see myself doing it for another 30 years so decided it was time for a change. I wanted a proper career rather than just a job so decided on Web Development.

What was the support like on the course?

The tutors were great and would help and guide you throughout the course, but would encourage you to be independent and prompt you towards finding the right answer rather than just giving you the right answer straight away. You also have personal mentors who have one-to-ones with you if you need any help with your code or just support in general. They also send out feedback forms once a week to help constantly improve the course and your input is really valued.

How much support did you receive from Northcoders with your job search after the course?

We had sessions on CV writing and interview skills whilst still on the course then after Steph was brilliant at setting up interviews and helping you find a job.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about applying?

My advice would be to do some online courses and go to coding meetups to see if it's something you like. If you love it, go for it! I'm really glad I made the decision to leave my job and study at NC and it has all paid off.
