English Teacher to Software Developer

TomPreview: Tom

How did you find your time on the bootcamp?

I really enjoyed my time at Northcoders and I was amazed what can be achieved in such a short space of time. I thought the lectures were well delivered and covered come really important topics. I made some good friends on the course, and having the opportunity to pair program throughout was really useful. I really enjoyed the projects we worked on, and they really helped me to get a better understanding of the material we looked at.

I had an interview lined up before the course had finished, and I was offered a job 2 days after completion. I was amazed what can be achieved in such a short space of time

What were you doing before the bootcamp and what made you apply?

I had been teaching English abroad for quite a long time, but I was keen to return to the UK to be closer to family and friends, as well as to pursue my interest in code.

What was the support like on the course?

I was able to get help whenever it was required which was wonderful! Having the NC help command available made life a lot easier and meant you could get help with what you struggled with, exactly when you needed it. It was also great to have a mentor who would look over your projects with you, and help you where you needed it.

How much support did you receive from Northcoders with your job search after the course?

I was really impressed with the job support we were given. I had an interview lined up before the course had finished, and I was offered a job 2 days after completion! The job support team were constantly in contact with me, and really tried hard to help get me a good position.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about applying?

I would highly recommend doing the course, because it really will push to become a better coder, and think in a way that will help your throughout your career if you go into software development.
